Just Say No! - It's the easy way out
Recently, a kid in Alabama was offered a free Bible by the Gideons.
In case you don't know, the Gideons are a men's group whose sole purpose in life is to give out Bibles to people from all walks of life. While this is good, they have gotten in trouble over the years for doing this pratice near and in schools.
With all this background in mind, I return to the case in Alabama.
On the day the Gideons arrived, they came carring a box of King James Bibles. One kid who recieved one was Catholic. (Catholics have never been fond of the King James Bible). When the kid brought the Bible home, mama was not happy due to the fact the Bible was not the Challoner revsion of the Douay-Rheims Bible. As we speak, mama is upset. As a result, the school in question will require signed permission statements for all future Bible giveaways by the Gideons.
This whole row was pointless. If mama wanted her kid to have a Catholic Bible, she could have brought one online. See, simple is it?
In the 80's, Nancy Reagan made Just Say No a mantra against drug use. I'm thinking it would have worked wonders here.
