Check yourself - but not in that way

Recently a coach in Maine was sacked for telling his players to "check their manhoods" as a form of encouragement. In reply to the request, all but one of the players did as they were told. In making the request, the coach said the purpose of the game was to determine which team had the biggest sensitive part of the male anatomy. Defending himself, the coach claimed this was common talk in locker rooms and that, when all is said and done, they won.

What's my spin? For starters, this comment and request is uncalled for. I have always believed that coaches and teachers should be role models. Also, what happened to encouraging kids to play team sport based on the shared values of good sportsmanship, fun, respect for others, and fraternity?

Now that this guy is out of job, he will have a lot of time to think about it all.
